Dive into this landmark series chapter by chapter for an

incredible look back into The History of Sportfishing as we go on an

adventure through time, starting from when fishing was a simple act of

survival, forward over the centuries as it evolved into one of the

greatest participation sports in the world today.

Packed with key figures who pioneered the sport, we highlight

major accomplishments and historic events in the evolution of

sportfishing. Hear about fly fishermen in colonial America

and how

they founded one of the oldest fishing clubs in the world. Learn about

the earliest recorded large tarpon ever caught off the coast of Florida.

Watch actual footage of the first-ever 1,000-pound fish being captured

on rod and reel in exclusive 94-year-old 35-mm motion pictures. Listen

to industry legend Ray Scott himself, in a never-before-seen interview

with Ken Duke describing how he came up with the idea for B.A.S.S. and

what it took to get that

first tournament off the ground. Every

aspect of the sport has been covered, from the earliest tackle and gear

to the developments that pushed the limits of the sport to

once-unimagined heights.

Story behind THE SERIES

Fishing is as rich an American tradition as baseball and the 4th of July.

The men and women behind The History of Sportfishing bring a

wealth of fishing experience and resources to the project, including

thousands of feet of old fishing films and rare never-before-published

photographs, which if they were not digitized, would have been lost

forever.

The History of Sportfishing represents a lifetime

of love and respect for the sport and was only made possible through

the generous collaboration of organizations that provided resources,

talent, and support to make this series a reality. As part of our

collective dedication to the future of sportfishing, a significant

percentage of your membership will be given back to conservation

non-profits that are fighting to protect and preserve our fisheries and

aquatic resources.
